Contrary to popular belief, it is Dunnet Head which is the most northerly point of mainland UK, rather than John o'Groats, as is often said.

The head sticks out dramatically and can be seen from miles around due to its stunning cliffs and prominent lighthouse, built by Robert Stevenson (grandfather of the the author Rober Louis Stevenson) in 1831.
Be warned - the winds are ferocious so any loose hats or caps need to be held onto for dear life!
From the headland, the isle of Stroma can be seen, as well as the the southern islands in the Orkney chain, namely South Ronaldsay.
Another major attraction of Dunnet Head are the birds, for which it is an RSPB sanctuary, where you can see 'seabirds such as gannets, auks and skuas or even geese from Greenland and Iceland passing overhead'
Whatever you do, take some binoculars and have a good wander!
